Winter Baseball Boredom – Top 10 Baseball Movies

I was sitting at home last night, waiting for that first big free-agent signing from Vegas, when I decided to go through the ol’ baseball DVD library.  I needed my fix, and listening to the XM Radio (channel 175), or surfing the net just wasn’t doing it for me.  So I decided to pick a movie to watch, and after much debate, I settled on the number one choice (gotta scroll down the list to see).  I also decided to see what the MLBloggers think about my top 10 baseball movie list.

(oh and in case you haven’t figured out number 1 yet, here is a quote from the movie), “A good friend of mine used to say, ‘This is a very simple game. You throw the ball, you catch the ball, you hit the ball. Sometimes you win, sometimes you lose, sometimes it rains.’ Think about that for a while.”

Give me your thoughts as well.

Good list! I did something similar on mine a while back – check it out. I love a Field of Dreams, A League of Their Own and Fever Pitch. (Got to love a Red Sox Movie!)

Thanks. I’m going to have to check out your list and compare now. Fever Pitch is on my list because they were filming a scene at the SkyDome when I was working one day….and turns out the scene was deleted from the movie anyways. Oh well, got to see Drew Berrymore at least. :)

Love that quote from Bull Durham, and Eight Men Out is a great portrayal of the 1919 scandal.

I’m definately in favour of bringing in Furcal. The problem is he may be worth too much, you are right. If we sign him, all other free agents seem unlikely, and J.P. will have to look solely to the trade market. You’ve compiled a good movie list. (other favorites of mine include Cobb with Tommy Lee Jones, Hardball with Keanu Reeves). A movie I desparately want to see is ‘The Bronx is Burning’ with John Tuturo. It is about the 1977 New York Yankees.

Anyway, thanks for the comment!

You do have a great taste in movies but there is one that I really don’t agree with and that is the rookie but other than that its a good list. How do you feel about the Jays this year?

Why, thanks for the comments. The nice thing about putting together a list like this is the debate that follows. You could ask 100 different people, and get 100 different answers. I think the Jays will be around a .500 team yet again this season. Youth movement will begin, with mixed results I’m sure. i really like what the Mets have done with their bullpen, but what do you think about their chances to finally make the playoffs?

A movie not a lot of people have seen or even heard of is “Mickey.” It’s a John Grisham movie, and not very prominent, but it’s actually one of my favorite baseball movies. Look it up. Watch it. Check it out. It’s in my Top 3.

I’ll have to check it out. When was it released, and do you think it’s something that would be found at a video store? Just out of curiosity, what are the other two in your top three?

You will never be happy if you continue to search for what happiness consists of.
